Floral Graciellie Design Watercolor

Works of Love

June 23, 2020

Welcome friends!  Thank you for stopping by.

We bring you another card today made with the new “Words of Hope” digital set by Graciellie Design!  This time we used watercolors to bring life to this image and we just love how it turned out.

Focal Point:

  • The Orchid Branch image was resized, and its transparency was changed to 75% (this changed the lines of the image from black to a light gray). The image was then printed on Canson XL Cold Press Watercolor paper with a laser printer.
  • The image was also printed on a sheet of masking paper.
  • Using a wet-on-wet watercolor technique, Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers were used to color the image. Several layers of color were added to achieve the desired vibrancy.
  • The sentiment was printed on a shimmery vellum.
  • Black cardstock was used to cut the word “love” several times which were stacked and glued together for a bit of dimension. The leading “tail” of the word was manually added as the die did not include it.

Background Panel:

  • The dried watercolor panel was cut down to 4 1/8” x 6 ½”.
  • The printed mask was fussy-cut and adhered over the watercolored image. Make sure your image is completely dry before you do this!
  • A die was used to create a rectangle stencil from an old piece of plastic transparency film with an opening that measures 3 ½” x 5 ½”.
  • The rectangle stencil was centered over the masked floral image and secured with purple tape.
  • Distress ink was blended over the panel using a blender brush concentrating the color at the edges of the rectangle and fading towards the flower.

Card Assembly:

  • The vellum sentiments were trimmed into strips that measured 5” wide. The ends of each sentiment strip were wrapped around the watercolor panel and secured to the back with score tape.
  • The watercolor card panel was mounted on a side-folding, black cardbase that measures 4 ¼” x 6 5/8”.
  • The word “love” was adhered in place with liquid glue.

“When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves.”
