Hello crafty friends! Spring is definitely in the air here in Western New York, and we are soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the fragrant blooms that are starting to emerge in our flower beds. We are not fans of the cold and tend to hibernate during the winter months, so it is truly invigorating to be able to spend time outdoors once again!
We have a special card to share with you today but before we get into it, we are curious to know what part of creating handmade cards do you enjoy the most? Our favorite part is the ability to customize and tailor them specifically for the intended recipient. For instance, what if you needed a birthday card for a special 13-year old niece who is obsessed with purple butterflies and loves to play tennis? We are certain that you won’t find anything in the Hallmark aisle that checks all those boxes, but you can absolutely make one!
Our card project today is one of those special customized-specifically-for-you cards and we had so much fun putting it together. The recipients of this card recently adopted/rescued a sweet pup from their local shelter. They named him Brodie and you can see him in all his handsome adorableness below.
Focal Point Elements
• To create a paper representation of Brodie, the puppy was cut from a mixture of white, tan, black and blue cardstock scraps using the dies in the set and assembled with liquid glue.
• The plant and planter were cut from a mixture of green, yellow and gray carstock scraps using the dies in the set and assembled with liquid glue.
• Using brown dye ink, the floor was stamped onto the bottom of a white arch diecut. Light blue dye ink was lightly blended above the floor.
• The “HOME” sentiment was cut from gray cardstock and the roof was cut from black.
• The word “BRODIE” was cut from black cardstock.
• The speech bubble was cut from white cardstock and the heart center was cut from red.
Background Panel
• A panel of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock was cut to 4-1/5″ x 6-1/5″.
• A homemade stencil was created using the paw print die and a scrap piece of heavyweight cardstock. The paw print opening created by the die was used to blend dark brown paw prints randomly onto the Neenah Desert Storm card panel.
• A stitched panel of white carstock was cut to 5″ x 7″.
• The panel with paw prints was adhered to the center of the white stitched card panel using liquid glue.
Card Assembly
• The arched diecut was adhered to the lower center of the paw print panel using liquid glue, making sure to leave enough room at the top to adhere the sentiments.
• The puppy, plant and speech bubble elements were adered to the arched diecut using a mix of liquid and foam adhesive. The height of the elements were varied and overlapped to give depth and dimension to the scene.
• The sentiment diecuts were adhered to the top center of the card panel, overlapping the arched diecut.
• An acrylic block was used to stamp “Welcome” in black pigment ink to complete the sentiment.
• The completed card panel was adhered to a white side-folding card base.
Well, there you have it! We hope you enjoyed this card as much as we did creating it and that you were inspired to create something unique and customized for the special people in your life.
Crafty hugs,
Michele and Maureen
